Water and wellness reign as Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited successfully hosts Bonaquathon
Schweppes Zimbabwe is not only focused on providing refreshment to its customers, it also takes pride in its involvement in sports and fitness. Just recently the company gave back to the athletics community by hosting the country’s first ever Bonaqua Marathon held at Old Georgians Sports Club in Harare.
Held on the 29th of April 2018, the event brought together several professional and amateur athletes who took part in different races on the day. The event was sponsored by Schweppes Zimbabwe through the Bonaqua Still Water brand, incorporating different athletic challenges in the form of long and short distance races.
These included a walk and run for five and 10 kilometre distances designed for amateur participants dabbling in the competition just for fun’s sake; and a 21 kilometre and 42 kilometre categories targeted at serious athletes, including professionals, who were using the race as practice for other future competitions.
A number of people signed up and participated including several professional athletes and a significant number of individuals who were excited about the event’s opportunity to celebrate wellness under the banner of a health conscious brand like Bonaqua.
All these people battled it out for various prizes which were part of the US$7,600 set aside by the Bonaqua brand, and several other non-cash prizes which were also distributed to other spirited competitors.
Though the Bonaqua Marathon was the first time the still water brand has lent its support to athletics, it has, in the past, been the official sponsor of a number of disciplines that include rugby in the country’s Super 8 Rugby tournaments, tiger fishing, triathlon through the international Bonaqua Troutbeck ATU African Triathlon Cup, cricket through its sponsorship of Zimbabwe Cricket, and support lent to other school and corporate sports initiatives.
This year’s edition of the Bonaqua Marathon was a resounding success, helping Schweppes Zimbabwe celebrate with a community that is passionate about friendly competition, wellness and wonderful water!
